Cry Havok, and let loose the dogs of war…

OK, I’m going over the top a bit. But this week’s attempt at introducing the new version of SL’s physics engine, Havok, was an unmitigated disaster. What makes it worse is the fact that all the signs gained from Beta testing and some limited introductions on the Main Grid showed it to be unworkable.
Again I suspect pressure was brought to bear upon SL’s Server Rollout Managers to push-on with the Pathfinding project. Rod, it is a good idea, but it needs a lot more work before it is ready for prime-time.

Give Linden Lab’s programmers some time to think through their work and some of it may actually stick, push and it will be what we have seen far too much of lately, a shambles.

The Fix to SVC-7598 actually partly works, Darien Caldwell spotted the flaw, and really that should have been seen long before it was released. There is one element in Linden Lab’s recent work that really needs some improvement and that is QA. Test, test and test again people. Stop putting out half-assed code, it is ruining your reputation even amongst those who would give you the benefit of the doubt.
